Begining Draft of Bobbys Classroom activity outline

Title: The Diverse Cultures of the World

Objectives: I want my students to have some pride in their nationality and culture. I want them to learn about their cultures past and present. Once the students get a feel for their culture history, they can begin to understand and learn about other cultures, and still keep their identity and pride of their own. I want my students to change their attitudes towards other cultures, especially stereotyping minorities.

Prerequisite: I guess my students would need to have access to their history, nationality and cultural customs. They would obviously need some computer/typing skills for the writing part of the assignment.

Materials needed: Computer, Internet access, Power point, Word

Set up/Context:
- 10-grade world history class, or a geography class
- 2-3 weeks,
- One week for research, one for writing the assignment, one for presentation of assignments.
- The presentation will be in the classroom and research and prior writing at home.

Process/Instructions: I have not done the process or step-by-step procedures yet.

Outcomes: The student will have produced at the end of the project a 4-6-page essay on their particular nationality, a power point for a presentation, and a little knowledge of the other cultures in the world.

Evaluation: I am going to be taking notes throughout each student’s presentation, and I will copy or take the highlighted points from the student’s assignments and make a comprehensive test on what they learned about the cultures. I will have some multiple-choice questions and a short essay.

Follow Up: The follow up for this assignment will be another 1-2 week assignment that has to deal with a partner or other classmate’s nationality. I want to get the students view of other cultures and hopefully get them to learn something new about their classmate.

Resources: I have not had any idea of print or web resources yet, but this is a work in progress so I will have them soon. I think my reference page will be in APA or MLA whatever is the majority choice in the school I teach in.

Post 3: Life as an Undergrad-Bobby 2

Well i have to say that this week wasone of the hardest week i have had at FGCU this year. First off, i thought we had presidents day off, so i didnt come to school. So that started the week off on a bad note, i was behind in all my classes. Then i had a couple of essays due and a big test in the middle of the week. It is always nice how teachers have big assignments and big test all on the same day. i think they have a meeting and say "lets piss of the students and put big assignment due on thursday. well that is just my thought, they probably dont, but i feel that way alot. I was tired the whole week, because i did not get enough sleep from staying up to late writing essays. I guess it is just one of those weeks were you say "i can'nt wait for the weekend." Thank the lord it is just one more week until spring break, all i have to do is study adn pass my midterms. Also good luck to all the other students taking their midterms!!

This is my power point assignment of the 5 most significant events in my life. I really enjoyed this assignment because i got to look back at my past. I also like this project because i got to full around in power point, which i always like to do. Here is an excerpt from my project, i hope that you enjoy it and learn a little more about me.

Bobby's Revised Classroom activity, 1. 02/22/06

I am planning to be a high school history teacher and so I want to make my classroom activity geared towards some events in history. I will start by assigning the students to do research in their own family history. What nationality are they? What country are there ancestors from? Once they find out their ancestors origins and nationality, they can begin to do research on those certain country or countries. I would like the students to find out information about their ancestors country and write a 4-6-page essay. I will have a template for this essay as soon as i finish it myself. If i think it is too overwhelming then i will condense it. I will then organize and decide the questions or topics i would like the students to concentrate on. I would like for them to include why their ancestors came to America (if they know), something special about that country, an important event in that country's history, and basic information about that country. This essay will give students a better perspective of their home origins. After they completed their essay, I would like for each student to prepare a power point presentation of their country to be presented in front of the class. This will enable the students to learn about each other’s nationality. After the presentations, I would pair the students that have different nationalities (Italian and Chinese, African and English) and would like them to write a 3-5-page essay about their partner’s country. Finally I would have the students prepare a speech to share with the class the facts they learned of another nationality. I will give a lot of time in advance for the students to do research and give them a deadline to meet, probably 2 weeks to due the first part of the assignment with 2 weeks of research beforehand. I hope that this classroom activity will open the eyes of the students to the different cultures around the world.

Post 3: Life as an Undergrad-Bobby

My life as an undergrad has been an interesting experience that is not yet completed. One of the hardest things for me is driving to and from school since i live in north cape coral. FGCU is so far away from my house and the drive is very demanding on my day. I am constantly busy doing school work, my job, involved with my church, and playing baseball. Life seems o busy right now, but i am in no hurry to become fully employed. My classes at FGCU are very different from the classes i took at edison, where i went for my first two years of college.

This is only the first of my life as an undergrad posting, stay tuned for more to come.

Post 2: Bobby's technology autobiography

"My brother Ray became the new technology man in our house and he was continually teaching our parents the newest technology in our house. I however, was watching ray working and fixing computers and I developed a little interest in that field. So when ray needed a partner to help him, he called on me. Everything I have learned and all the success I have had with computers is owed to my brother ray and partially my mom."

This is an excerpt from my technology Autobiography. This assignment is basically and autobiography of our experience with technology. This project gave me the chance to look back into my own life and see all the things I learned with the use of technology. Some day when I become a teacher, I would like to use a project similar to this one, so I can understand my students a little bit better. I would change it a little bit to pertain to history, since that is the field of study I am going into, but I would like to find out about each of my students history and lifestyles. If you would like to read more click here.
