Hey, whenever you can make personal connections to learning is when you hit the bullseye. As you know, the biggest question any teacher gets is, "Why do we need to know this?" If a teacher's answer is, "So you can get a Jeopardy question right," forget that! I have been teaching high school for six years now. I was formerly a journalist. I've taught in two schools, both of which were in poor communities. I can tell you this. Knowledge is the big motivator. If you can show the immediate applicability to life with what you are doing in the classroom, you are on target.

Keep it up.
